I'm a newbie to all this. I bought New Milford transfer paper for inkjet, one for light colors and one for dark. One of the papers is very thin and the other is thicker and has blue on one side and white on the other. Which paper is for lites and which for darks. And on the two colored on which side gets printed by me on my HP?
I assumed the thin one was for lights. I printed "best" ink and the word came out. It said Venice Beach. I let it dry and used a hot hand iron over it but nothing is coming out. I tried turning it over and still nothing. What am I doing wrong? Thanks everybody
Most of these transfer papers can't be used with a home iron. A professional heat press is needed. Did the directions you received say an iron could be used?
Although the best results are with a heat press you can use some papers with a home iron but the difference in the finally product pales in comparison.
Pressure and the correct temperature is what you need to transfer the image on to the shirt. The iron must be super hot, and you will need a hard surface because an ironing board won't do.
Using white shirt stuff print backwards. After printing place face down to press. Dark stuff on the other hand prints normal. You peel the paper off and place correct read.
before getting a heat press i tried a couple of shirts using the hand iron technique. two words : it sucks! you have to 'press' it on hard steady surface since you'll have to use most of your body weight and alot of force to get the pressure you need for the transfer to adhere. believe me if doing shirts with hand irons were an option alot of people would have saved money and not have bought a heat press. IT DOESN"T WORK! at least not on a professional level. one shirt i did using the hand iron was for a friend who's dog had just died. it was a 'memorial' shirt sort of. after FINALLY getting the transfer to adhere i thought it looked kinda good. he wore it once to a place where we all hang out and i was pretty proud of it. next time he wore it to the same place (after washing it) half of the design was missing or cracking and peeling. he wore it to break my balls. and everytime i see him now i still get em broke. NEVER AGAIN I SAY!!!
