Default Colors arent "authetic"..

So Im using Corel Draw 13, and I cant keep to get real colors. I get "gray" for Black. Orangeish for Red, etc.

Under Colors, it shows im using Uniform Colors and bottom right of the screen shows RGB 100% Black , but its still grayish. Any tips on correcting this? Thanks

This is a color management issue.

go to your color management menu
Tools / Color management
change color mode used for effects to RGB

This was changed to CMYK from V12 where the default used to be RGB.

Most likely your issue

You need a colour profile for your printer, it should be in your driver software or you can get a custom profile done and set it in Corel.

You didn't specify if this was a monitor problem or a printing problem. Unfortunately, output devices all have different ways to display the same data. The others have covered your printer setup, however your monitor is also considered an output device.

It could be that what you are seeing is gray, but what prints is black, or vice versa, you need to figure out the best way to simulate what the printer will receive and what you see on the monitor are the same, which is a battle all artists end up facing.

Some video cards come with a color profiler application which you can use to optimize your display, there are also various contrast, brightness, and color adjustments you can make on your monitor. If your computer didn't ship with one, there should be one available online, or your monitor may have an old test pattern in the menus that is used on televisions which you can use to adjust. I've had LCD's come with their settings jacked up too high and had problems with a really washed out black/dark grey in my drawing programs before. Also, make sure you're running in a good resolution with at least 24 bit/32 bit graphics.

If your monitor is fine, sorry for going in depth on the subject, if it isn't, then hopefully this helps. If by chance you're having these issues printing with dye sub inks, then you're most likely missing the ICC profile for those inks, and the paper that you receive will actually look quite faded/washed out, but your transfer will look excellent.

First, I think you should turn your colour calibration on.

Go to TOOLS->COLOR MANAGEMENT and choose OPTIMIZED FOR DESKTOP PRINTING or OPTIMIZED FOR PROFESSIONAL OUTPUT

You will see a large shift in colours when you go back to Corel. The Palette will seem darker and duller but those are the colours that it will print.

After that, use CMYK colours rather than RGB colours for your vector graphics. Your RGB bitmaps will be output about the same. I hope it may help!

Im using v14 for Sublimation on hard substrates and im using printer profile Artanium UV 1400 v2.3 also did everything by the book, workspace color set to Internal (1998) RGB, RGB for effects... Import/Export to RGB

So when printing i get everything very dark... yellow turns orange, lightbrown turs darkbrown, khaki turns dark choclade etc. This is when sublimated... Final product outcome of course, on paper they should look dull i know... Heat, time and preassure according to book also.

Really have no clue whats going on... its the screen to bright or printer to dark ??? how do you adjust that so your somewhere close to real colors ??? Maybe not spot on but you shouldn't see the diffrence so clear... customers will yell if they're not all colorblind.

Any help is mostly appriciated, thanx

You said you are using the Artanium icc but before you print you should check under your printer options to make sure that the Artanium icc profile box is checked. In my setup this is under the miscellaneous tab.

Just a thought.

Great thought there, thanx but surely i ticked the box using the Artanium profile... in printing dialog

Isnt that what the printer profile should do for me ??? print accurate colors as on screen when i pick a color (RGB) it should print that color value right ? I mean i shouldnt have to pick a very very bright brown in order to print regular brown right... that seems far off the road

Also discovered that in Photoshop CS4 it prints with bluish tint... light grey turns slightly blue, and working space if set to RGB is light blue instead of pure white ?! even more strange...

Nothing wrong with printer, noozle checked and cleaned...

Whew, I feel for you guys. We're almost 5 years now doing digital printing and I'll admit that color matching is still a hit-and-miss thing for us. I even bought a Spider Monitor calibration gadget, and still it's a hit and miss. And now, we're doing wide format sublimation and DTG, the variables to consider increased. I'm just praying that my guys will get a good feel of our equipment, substrates, softwares and inks and that eventually, experience will be our best teacher and hopefully we can minimize our mistakes.

p.s. On our embroidery machines, off course we can see the thread colors to be used....wish it was that simple!

Solved my darker colors !!!

I was picking the colors as seen on top picture, i wanted those on the final product but they came out as the lower pic... way off as seen !!!

This i have battling the whole week reading posts, google and finally wrote here... little did i know a simple stupid arrow could cause this behaviour

Look at the color management dialog... labeled stupid arrow, when ticked all colors were bright and wonderful but only on screen grrr

Now on the lower pic the stupid arrow is unticked leaving the screen showing the Artaniums real colors... Yay

Seems its easy to overlook the most simpliest of solutions... might be worth looking there once in a while for all of you guys, my setup is all based on RGB... always convert and exporting to RGB as well as for effects and proper printerdriver in my case Artanium... one stupid arrow led me down !!!

Hope you guys also find ways to solve your color correction problems... not always spot on but as close as its possible of course, good luck and salute to all helpful guys and gals in this forum !!!
