If you are just in the testing stage I would go with Specialty Graphics like Katrina said as you can buy by the foot. Most vendors only sell by the roll. Specialty Graphics is the only one that I have found that sells by the foot and by the roll. A foot will cost you $3. A roll starts at $33.00. I normally buy 2 feet of about 8 different colors at a time which gives me more options than buying one color roll for the same price.
For example: If you buy one roll of black then the only thing you can do is black designs, but if you buy 2 feet each of 8 different colors (Which will cost the same as one black roll) then you can put countless color combinations together. But just for testing, I wouldn't go with an entire roll.
I use Thermoflex as well and I love it. I also used some of the specialty ones from HotFix, but it seems as though they went out of business 07/31/09.
I also buy by the foot to try new colors or for small jobs with an uncommon color that I don't think I'll use. It is a little more expensive per foot than per foot on the roll, but not too bad.
I purchase from Specialty Materials. Their shipping is really fast to me here in NY.
