Hello community, i bought ai cs4 and i have no idea about graphic design or anything that has to do with illustration. Can anybody give me any sugestions on what can i do with my cs4, I dont know if there is any FREE classes that i can take online or if i can sale it (open box)?
and i reccomend opening up Illustrator and click on everything... try painting or making some shapes...
the Illustrator help files that come with the program are actually pretty good... and remember to have fun... if you do something terribly wrong you can always re-install the program...
and you can sell the program if you stop using it and sell the disc and the serial number to the new owner i believe... you could ask adobe also...
Youtube has some great Illustrator how to videos. Also do a google search as their are tons of sites with tutorials on them dedicated to Illustrator.
The program has a bit of a learning curve so if you don't pick it up right away keep at. Remember you will get out of it what you put into it.
yes i agree with learn by doing but whatever happened to reading the manual? i never understood the online tutorials. you can't actually do what the guy/gal is doing while you're watching on your monitor. (well you could i guess but to me it doesn't make sense). they used to have tutorials in the book along with a quick start section. i believe in getting as many good books as you can. have it open and read and do along with the projects they have. then start doing your own projects starting with writing down how to achieve your objective i.e. what tools to use, how many layers etc.
adobe usually publishes 'classroom in a book' for all of it's software. you can't go wrond with those. and lots of times i'll go down to barnes and nobles and browse through the books till i find one that offers the most. -good luck.

I actually find it easy. I watch the complete tutorial first. Then I watch it again as I follow along with the steps and hit pause frequently so that I can complete the steps. In the end it takes me no longer to perform the task than the video. Some people learn differently, some catch on rather fast, and some don't. Some have to take a course in the classroom while others can take the course online. It just depends on your abilities.
I have on occasion went to the bookstore to browse a book so that i can find out how to perform a specific task but I figure why go through the trouble when there are so many people and sites dedicated to showing you how to do it from the comfort of your home.
Check out lynda.com. Or if one was so inclined, someone could probably find some of their videos on the internet somewhere. But you'll have to find them yourself.
I learned by doing. I am still learning and always will be.
Lynda.com is a god resource, but it is not free. I am a huge fan of the Tuts Plus network of tutorial sited. I use the psd tuts (photoshop), net tuts (web), and vector tuts (illustrator) the most, and very often.
