Default Minimum Point size/ preperation of your image

Hi gyus,
Im an amature designer thinking of getting some tshirts designed, so I just wanted to ask you guys a couple of questions and was wondering if you'll can help me out?

I need to know whats the minimum point size (illustrator) i should use so that in either heat transfer or screen printing the image results would be as close to as the original image designed.

Also I would like to know how to prepare my image...e.g should add all my colors in the swatches, whats the best format to export in, and other other important things you experienced guys think ive missed out..

Its just great what you guys are goin to help us amatures out...hopfully in a couple of years, if this works out for me I can be at the other end..

thanks...
