Your image can be printed a number of ways, but before you go any further you must understand and know the new CPSIA laws regarding merchandise for children 12 and under. A good place to start would be the government’s website: http://www.cpsc.gov/businfo/businfo.html

You can also do a search of the forum on CPSIA laws to find some threads discussing the requirements.

Once you know the requirements, you can look for a company to contract with for printing that also knows the requirements for children’s apparel.

Now, for the ways you could have images of that type printed are:
4 color process screen printing
Simulated process/index color screen printing
Digital print heat transfer

There are some more ways you could have images like that printed, but those above are the main ones I would look into if I was going to do something like that.

Screen printing is the most cost effective if you want larger numbers printed. A digitally printed heat transfer would be good if you only want to make a few at a time. You could buy a heat press for a very reasonable price and print the garments yourself after you have had the transfers made and shipped to you.

Thank you for this information.

Will definately familiarize myself with the regulations then proceed. The screen printing method I consider more prefferable.

(1) In what format should I prepare the images for a company to work with

(2) In the event that I should have a heat press transfer made to use conveniently how many times can I use that tranfer, does it fade after too many uses, what kind of cost am I looking at for digital heat transfer?

The format you should have would be an .ai or .eps. this would avoid art fees. but jpegs or pdfs would work but then you would need to pay for the art work to be done. you can use a transfer once. heat xfers are like high quality iron ons. if you get good xfers the will last as long as screen printing. and prices are depending on the company you go to. and digital printing aka DTG (direct to garment). this is like a normal printer that prints on paper but uses garments instead of paper.
