Default AI blends and Changing product color?

we have these really nice proof sheets but we can not figure out how to edit the color without losing the shading. look at the images attached and you can see the white tee shirt, if we do a select all and change the color, we lose the shading and effects. the 3rd image show how the shirts were made and the gradients or blending were put in to create the effect. any ideas on how to make this a simple select, change the white to red for example so we can make the product proofs?

I would place a new object over the t-shirt template and use lens modes. This way you can change colors and retain your shading

We do something similar with our proof sheets. Try using a different blend mode (multiply works the best in my opinion) on the fill.
