[CorelDraw] - I need help with color sepration in corelDraw x3
I need help with color separating a logo or artwork Image say 4 or 5 spot colors that the customer created in say photoshop I have photoshop cs2 and coreldraw x3 .. But I don't like photoshop because I don't know that much about it ..I know if I create a logo or artwork in coreldraw I can make the colors process colors so coreldraw will recognize the colors and will automatic seprate them .. But how do you change the color of say red, blue or orange. to a color that coreldraw x3 will recognize ... What I'm asking is how can I change the colors of an image that isn't process colors so coreldraw will separate without having to put it in photoshop to do it

Don't fight it. Photoshop is the answer. If you have Photoshop art, then trying to force Corel Draw to separate it is like using a screwdriver to hammer a nail, when you have a hammer in your toolbox. Corel Draw won't take a piece of raster art and separate it into 5 spot colors. And even if it could, how would you trap, choke, underbase, etc? All of the above is where Photoshop is supremely capable.
Some people seem to be importing art that has already been separated in Photoshop, into Corel Draw where they will add vector text, etc and complet the design. But that is not "separating in Corel Draw".

Yeah, Yeah...
In Corel, go to Window>Color Palettes and Choose Pantone Solid Coated.
A spot colour palette will appear on your right.
If you have your colours as spots, when you go to Separate in the Print dialogue box, you should see just your colours that will be printed as separate plates.

Hi Everyone,
I don't think its easy as you guys are making it sound. The problem with Corel Draw is that its a vector based program and a Photoshop images are not. You will not be able to individually select and change colors in CDR unless you get a vector file. You can check the colors with the Eyedrop tool but will not be able to change them. The best option is to ge a layered file in PSD. If you dont have Photoshop can create paths in photo paint and change the color accordingly.
Re: I need help with color sepration in corelDraw x3
^^Actually, I'm saying the same thing as you more or less. This is absolutely a job for Photoshop. I would separate it in Photoshop regardless of layers or whatever. As long as it's a decent resolution file. Corel or other vector application can't separate this raster based art into spot colors.
Re: I need help with color sepration in corelDraw x3
All very confusing.Isint there anyone out there that can give me a step for step instruction on how to do the color seperation.I usually scan my images.Im confused now.....
Re: I need help with color sepration in corelDraw x3
Hi,
If this is a high resolution logo you best bet would probably to have someone convert it to vector for you. This way you can work on it in CDR. Do a search on Google to find some of these companies that convert graphics to vector. It will probably cost you around $20.00
Re: I need help with color sepration in corelDraw x3
Hi there again
Strange,i sort of scan the image into cd and then trace it as high resolution and then i get a vector image immediatly. Its just that after that procedure i kind of get stuck....
Re: I need help with color sepration in corelDraw x3
If its raster and you need spot colors you may need to go to bitmaps, duotone, quadtone etc. In quadtone assuming you have a four color project you can assign spot colors for the cmyk values represented. I am not positive on this as I work generally in vector but I think this can work.
