"Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime."

I use a program called "Inkscape" (its free by the way. Mac or PC) which allows me to trace the any bitmap image into a vector image, which is saved in an EPS format you should be good to go with the cutter.

steps:
Open your image
go to the Path tab and go to "Trace Bitmap"
select your image, trace it with the settings you want.
save in EPS format.

It takes a little playing around and trouble shooting to completely figure out, but it works very well for me. I use Sign Cut and its working really well.

Hopefully that helps, its a pain in the *** to do by yourself in the beginning. If you do end up trying this and get stuck or frustrated contact me and I can probably help you out.
