Default How to add Registration marks in layers w/cs3

Hi folks,
New to the forum and blown away what great info is generously passed along here. I've learned a great deal with this site and also using youtube for tutortorials. I've done about 8 jobs in screen printing thus far and one area I'm still a little fuzzy on is adding registration marks in different layers. The size and placement is not the issue and I usually get there, but never sure exactly how I did it. My question is After the art is done and I'm ready to print to positive I have a hard time adding the reg. marks. I've locked one layer, kept both open and done a paste and copy ect. Can anyone tell me the correct way to understand this. Thanks ahead. Joe

If you go to your print dialogue box you can add them there, you don't specify which CS3 programme you're using.

Dave,
Thanks for the idea. I use Illustrator (mac version) and have in the past added the reg. marks on the layers themselves, but just can't remember exactly how I did it and am having problems adding them with the copy and paste method to add the same reg. marks to the 2nd layer. Have not used the print dialouge box to add the marks, but will look into that tact. My guess is that that way might have limitations to where I can place them in the size. As I said I have added them in the past with the copy and paste, but not sure how I did it with the lock a page, unlock, paste method. It has worked, but not for me right now, just can't seem to figure out the exact procedure. Thanks again for any input. Joe

You can change the offset from the image and if you choose Japanese crop marks they will be on the centre line of your artborad (not necessarily the design).

it sounds more like you are talking about the crop marks that you can place on the art board, not registration marks.
Select your image area that, go to object > crop area > make

dave is right. print dialogue>marks and bleeds. you can choose a multitude of things: trim marks, reg. marks, color bars etc. you're separating your colors through that anyways, why not let it (illustrator) auto do it for you?

Thanks everyone for your help. I felt a little stupid about asking this question, as I knew the answer would be something simple (as it usually seems to be w/ illustrator). I had a chance to poke around with the layers just now and found that the problem was indeed simple. The mistake I was making was that I was trying to make the reg. marks on the 2nd layer and then add them to the 1st with copy and paste. All I had to do was put the reg. marks on the first layer and they were included on the 2nd as well. Like I first thought, something simple.
Thanks again. I've also got another question as I'm doing my first print job of printing a tight white trim outline on lettering or dark ink and want to make sure I'm doing it the best or easiest way. I'll start another thread though to see what help folks might provide.
Thanks again. Joe

another way to to do it is to use the custom shape tool. Create a registration mark and add it to your custom shapes.
In your artwork add a center guide
Add in your reg. mark via custom shape (use fixed size e.g. 0.3 inches) to the top left corner (snap)
Alt drag to the center guide, then to the right corner. Then select all 3 and drag to the bottom.
There you have your 6 registrations.
