Hello and I hope someone can help answer this question for me...and thank you!

This is the background: I'm going to start making T-Shirts and the font I'm interested in using was marked for FREE personal-use, and SMALL DONATION commerical/profit-use.

I contacted the man in France and he sent me a reply with the donation amount. He also asked me to give him the name of who the license shall be granted to in order for me to use it without any restrictions.

I do not have a business or license of any kind at this moment. So this is my question: can I have him license the font in my name and then use it at my own discretion and own will?

It depends on your license. If the license is specifically for use on t-shirts, it means you can't use it for anything else you do. But it's best to ask the owner.
