Default How do you create a design according to sizes?

Hey guys I was wondering how do you design according to the different shirt sizes? For example, If I created a design, and I want to use
it across the board of sizes of shirts (XXL,L,M,S) would I have to get a different size screen for each size or would it be a general size for all.

I would think that a design for a small shirt would look different for a XXL or Large, and it wouldn't be very attractive to a consumer if the design is tiny
I'm thinking of starting my own line, and I'm trying to research and educate before hand, and I can't seem to think of a answer for this one
So how does Johnny Cupcakes and dudes like that design according to size?

If anyone could help me out or advise the best situation

Thanks!

Good question. I too was wondering the same thing. I was told by a rep @ TsDesigns that it was really a subjective question. It depended on things such as are you willing to pay an extra set up fee and how you are trying to portray your brand to your target audience. Still would like to know what others are doing.

Here is one of several posts on this question. Question about screen printing and size - same design size for different size garments?

Do a search at the top of this page on 'image print size' or equivalent for more.

Thanks beedee02 for replying,

I don't know if its about how you want to portray your brand
I think its a basic question,
if I design a t-shirt and I want it on a XXL and lets say, a small
The design looks funny if its too small and it will look weird if its too big on a small, I agree beedee02, I wonder if there is a standard design size with considering the variable sizes, or is it known in the industry to simply put up the money to get extra screens done?

If there is anyone with a current brand that could advise
on how they design and execute the production that would be great.

Depends....

If it's a custom job, will your customer pay for a second set up?? (You never make it up on the next job)

In this case, your own line of clothing, do a booking with your customers befor you go to print.

If you don't have any bookings and doing the field of dreams approach, "Print it and they will buy" you may want to look at Screen Printed Transfers, this way you can do two sizes and only print the shirts you need and you will not have any 70% off shirts to unload if the design doesnt fly. If the design explodes then start pulling the ink!

Good luck

It pretty much is.

If money is the most important thing, use one print size for all shirt sizes.

If money is mostly the important thing, use two print sizes to cover the size range (this is the most common approach).

If money is no object, use a different print size for every shirt size (this is unusual, but some high end brands do it).

The company I worked for used the same size across the board. One size for adults and a different size for youth. On an adult male we usually tried to go no bigger than 13in. wide. For women we usually didn't go pass 10in. wide. Youth we kept under 8.5in wide.
