I am printing red on a black shirt. I know I need an underbase, my question is how many passes of the white do I want to do, I am afraid if i do more than one my print will become very thick, and how long to flash it before I put my red down. I was told about 10-12 seconds. Do I do anything different with printing the underbase, or just print it like I am printing white?
personally if I were doing this ...i would start off with a 110 - 158 mesh screen for the white underbase.....and 230 for the red....depending on whether you want a softer feel to the ink is how many time you should print the white ..remember 2 passes of white then 1 pass of red thats 3 passes of ink....kinda rough hand in my opinion...I would print the white 1 pass.then flash for 10 seconds..then feel the ink to see if it is dry enough to print the red...
when printing the white I would do 1 fill stroke starting at the back of the screen by the screen clamp pulling toward your body then making sure you have a nice thick ink film in front of the squeegee push the squeegee with about a 60 - 70 degree Angle with a good amount of pressure ..not to much were you are mashing the ink into the shirt .. but enough to get the ink down smoothly...if done correctly you should print a nice opaque white with 1 stroke....
K, i am a newbie, what is choke? I bought a starter kit and all i have right now is 110 mesh. So, flood the screen with white, one good pass with white, flash for about 10 seconds, and a good pass of Red, maybe 2? and the cure. Am i on the right path?
When you put down an underbase, and you dont want the Underbase/White to show, you "choke" it
Basically making the outside diamentions smaller
in photoshop this is how I "choke" .....
select the image , everything you want to print on the shirt....then goto select /modify /contract
and contract 1 pixel then make a new layer under all other layer but on top of the background layer(if you have a background layer)and fill it with 100% black(because your positive needs to print black) and thats it.....
just get an opaque ink, a nice thick stencil, print/flash/print/cure. done, and with only one screen, and one film positive, no choking, or traping any artwork. waste off time on most projects, you will run into some where you do need a white underbase. post a pic of your artwork and we can get a better idea if it will work this way
