Regarding DPI and image sizes
Ok, so basically, I want to print my graphics on a 4" by 6" transfer paper.
In Photoshop, I set the canvas size to 4" by 6" exactly, and in the DPI / resolution box, I set it to 200 pixels / inch. See my screenshot below:
The problem is when I save this photoshop file into a JPG and print this thing out, the image size is larger than 4" by 6"!
It's like 50% larger!
If I just print it from Photoshop itself without saving it as JPG, then it works.
The thing is I need to convert to JPG format to send to the printing house.
Any advice?
What I wanna do is to print my graphics out at 4" by 6" big, with about 200 DPI resolution for high-quality look. (100 DPI is too blur).
Thanks!
Xeon

Re: Regarding DPI and image sizes I would maybe use 300 dpi to make sure you get all the detail in a small image like 4x6. When you save the jpeg do it from the save as menu, not the save for web and devices menu. It should remain 4x6in dimensions.

Re: Regarding DPI and image sizes Wow, will that work? I'm gonna try it later.
What I don't understand is.....saving the image as JPG using either the "Save file as..." and the "Save for web" etc. are the same, right?

Re: Regarding DPI and image sizes Ok, I've tried it but it's still the same.
Still, the image when saved as JPG is printed larger.
Any more ideas?

Re: Regarding DPI and image sizes Ok, I've uploaded the JPG to:
If you please, do download it and if you try printing it, it comes out larger than 4" by 6".
Thanks!

Re: Regarding DPI and image sizes What does it show when you do a "Print with preview" on the mac it's apple+option+P. Does it show it printing at 4x6 or is your "Scale to fit media" checked? If so make sure it's unchecked. That's the only thing I can think it's doing for some reason.
Also the "save for web" is not the same as a "save as" jpeg. The "save for web" is going to take the file down to make it fast viewing for the web. It will not print as clean as your normal Jpeg will.

Re: Regarding DPI and image sizes I just printed it and it printed 4 x 6 like it should. I just opened it in photoshop CS2 and hit print. Not sure why you aren't getting the same result unless it's your print preview messing it up.
Do you care if I ask what the very thin white lines are for?

Re: Regarding DPI and image sizes Thanks AV1611! The thin white lines are my personal markings and part of the design.
Btw, I'm printing using the Windows photo printing function (right-click image in Windows Explorer and Print).
Maybe there's a difference?
Gonna try printing the JPG from Photoshop later.
See ye,
Xeon

Re: Regarding DPI and image sizes OK! I printed it using Photoshop and now it works like ****!
Thanks to both you guys who respond to this post. I was kinda worried just now that I might have to re-do all my designs.
Strange thing is that printing from Windows explorer gives weird results, though. If anyone knows why, pls de-mystify the cause.
Good day,
Xeon

Re: Regarding DPI and image sizes are you checking the settings under the "Image" menu and then selecting your image size selection. You should make sure all your sizes, DPI, etc all line up in this menu. It is right by our canvas size. If your settings are off in this screen it could effect your printing size.
