Default Imprint Widths

I realize that there are any number of design options for the size of the imprint on any given shirt; however...

I'd like to know if anyone has a list of standard widths for tshirts:

For example: Men's Large: 11-12 inches wide, etc.

Does that make sense? Or is there another formula?

If you are going to print yourself or contract some screen printer, there is not standard size, but it will depend of your design itself.
As for printing in places as CafePress, they have a maximum size, that is about 10" by 8" I think, not really sure.
If that is your question.. is is all up to you.
Besides that, there are not standard sizes, at least anyone that have more experience (and that could be ANYONE) than myself say the other way

I hesitated using the word "standard" because I understand that there is not a universal standard. What I'm wondering is if you or others have developed a "formula" for run of the mill shirts.

For example, I have to do some ladies Medium shirts and I have a design (something like Property of North Carolina). So...I measured my wife across the chest and it seemed like it should be about 8 inches wide.

So...does that help clarify my question?

I like to visit shirt.woot.com, choose one of their designs that are shaped similar to what I am doing and see what dimensions they are printing at.

For example one of their horizontal designs similar to a 'property of' design would measure 9 inches wide on womens/childrens, but 12-13 inches on mens.
