If you go into Font Book (under applications), you may notice there's several headings the fonts can be under. All Fonts, Computer, User, Classic Mac OS are what I had. When I installed new fonts, for some reason they automatically went into User, but didn't go into Computer. When I opened Inkscape, it only seemed to read the fonts that are under the Computer heading. So what you need to do is, once you've installed the new font, go to wherever it is (All Fonts, User, wherever), and drag it from there into the Computer section. Then close and reopen Inkscape, and it should be there."
