Here's one way to remove the white box around a bitmap image.
Open the image in Photopaint.
Use the magic wand tool to mask around it.
Under effects - invert the mask.
Save the image somewhere as a "cpt" corel photopaint file.
Now when you import the image into Coreldraw the white box is not visible. Voila!
