what's the best/user friendly font program out there?
Hi. I would appreciate any input re: the best/easiest program to manipulate fonts for a design. Obviously, I need a program that has as many font designs in the program. My business plan is to only focus on shirts with words/slogans on them with no other graphic images. I probably will get some kind of DTG printer, so I need a program that can interface with the printer and whatever graphic program the printer uses/accepts. I apologize if the question is too simplistic, but I really need some help on this. Google searches didn't get me anywhere.
Re: what's the best/user friendly font program out there?
I really like Illustrator for simple layout work, but buying Illustrator just to do that would be overkill.
Honestly, pretty much any program would probably be sufficient. I'd try something free like Inkscape and see if it meets your needs. If it doesn't you can always work your way onto something that costs money (Adobe CS and Corel Suite both have free trials you can download before you purchase them).
Your computer comes with many fonts installed though, and in addition you can download free fonts, purchase well priced font packs, etc. A free software program should sufficient.

Just to throw it out there, check out dafont dot com. You can input custom characters or text and have each font within each category displayed with whatever you input into the field. It is very helpful. From there you could download the font and manipulate it in illustrator and work towards a modified typeface if you wanted to go that far..

Hey, thank you all, MrBigJack, Solmu and SevenohSeven. I appreciate your input. I checked out the Pagemaker, but it is way to expensive for my purposes right now. I'll definitely check out the free programs online you mentioned and see if that works for me. I just need a font only program that will allow me to cut and paste into the program that the DTG printer will take. I still have a long way to go on the learning curve. I do have a name picked out/reserved for my website, so I need to get it up and running as soon as I can.
By the way, Mr. Solmu/Lewis, my stepfather was from Sydney. One of these days when I am rich, I hope to make it over there for a long overdue visit.

MrBigJack...you are soo evil...publisher, ha ha
Run away, hide the women and children, the dreaded publisher is coming to town
My cheap 1.5 cents. short term you could use word, but you will be limited in the long/short run.
give yourself time for a learning curve on Adobe Creative suites.
I have been using it since the original product (illustrator 88) and I find new ways to use it all the time.

Corel is good...you can find it on Amazon for pretty inexpensive. If you are looking for "user-friendly". Illy has a bit of a learning curve, but Corel is a good start for newbies!
