Some people use a tablet to draw on and others freehand and scan, i do it both ways. I found adobe illustrator cs2 and photoshop cs2 to be very good, but not very user friendly others use coreldrawx3 or x4. hope this helps
k thanks, i figure ill just check out the three programs you guys talked about, see which one works best for me. I'm more of a pencil and paper guy myself. Thanks again to everyone
Im not a good freehand drawer by any means.. Some of my best works have been done simply in MS Paint (in fact.. I designed my entire business card in MS Paint).. from there I use CD x3 and Vector Magic.
Personally, I do it all. I've been doing art and animation for a long time now (but now it's at a bit of a standstill). It depends on what you're designing, the style/feel you want of it, and what media you want to put it out in. I have been using a tablet for years, I used to use a tablet pc, I draw and scan, and for certain effects I draw and take digital photos. You really need to experiment and get a style that you like. I have had a cheap adesso 6x8 tablet for four years, and it still works just as good. But it doesn't work on vista, so keep that in mind.
It also depends on what your end product will be. If you're making vinyl transfers you'll need either CorelDraw or Illustrator or some other program capable of producing vector files.
