[Photoshop] - Help with invert on black and white image for tee
Hi guys
I may be missing something here guys so if so please help me out.
I have an image like the one attached (just an example) and its fine on everything apart from black.
If i was to put it on black, how would I easily change the colours so it look recogmisable. If is simply invert it does not work.
If i changed the white to a red then the face doesnt look the same.
Every other coloured shirt I use the fabric colour as the base for the image but on black it doesnt work.
i can use a versacamm to cut vinyl for the darks but am lost how to do it.

Could you please using the "Ctrl" then "PrintScreen" command to snap a screenshot of your windows desktop?
Then post the file here to give me a better understanding of what you are describing?
Re: Help with invert on black and white image for tee
Hi
Im trying to make the black areas on the image into another colour but when I change it to say red, it doesnt look like einstein, it looks like a mash of lines.
This design seems to work with dark and white, or light/ pastel colours. If it was say red (for the detail in the image, on a black tee), it just doesnt look the same.
I will try to get another pic as I am rambling
Also, its not like Im trying to protect that image by the way, I accidentally watermarked all my images today while trying it out.
Re: Help with invert on black and white image for tee
any time i need to put an image like this on black i usually just add a thin white stroke to the whole image. i do invert the colors before i send the image to my cutter software. you will need to use white vinyl so the white parts of the design need to be recognized as black on the cutter software. i hope this made sense..hehehe.
this method works on any color shirt since the color of the shirt serves as the base or shadow areas of the design.

I was going to suggest that too chonkymonky!
You beat me to the punch
Typically screen art might need fades into a black tee but we are talking about solid color and no halftones.
Re: Help with invert on black and white image for tee
When you say it becomes a mash of lines, I'm a little bit confused. It looks pretty much like it was a vector trace to begin with, so changing the color should be real easy, even with Photoshop. Is this only occuring on print only, or is it visible on screen beforehand? If it's print only, what methods are you using to print (I know red on black via screen printing is supposed to be a major pain). If it's display only, uncheck any anti-aliasing techniques when you fill the colors in as that may be part of the problem.
Edit: Nevermind, looks like other people understood the problem better and resolved it!

Hi Joe
What I meant was that it looks cool with white / black contrast but with red / black contrast it loses its recognition.
I use Photoshop mainly.
Thnals again

i tried the red on black and it seems to look ok to me. just add the thin stroke like i suggested to seperate the image from the shirt. im using photoshop too by the way.
