Filters/Sketch/Stamp than do Noise/Median to smooth it out ..... than you can vectorize it for fine tuning on Vector Magic | Precision Bitmap To Vector Conversion Online

I adjust the levels (image>adjustments>levels..) or adjust the contrast (image>adjustments>Brightness/contrast). Play around with your options because all images are different. You want to adjust it so there is only 1 dominant dark color. i feel that this way i can get a bit more control and keep more detail. I generally then just drop it into illustrator and use a combination of livetrace/pen tool. Good luck.

desktop printers don't print white. white is an abscence of color. when screenprinting colors are separated......and a film will be printed out in black with each color being specified (one for blue, one for white etc.). don't know about dtg printing. you could do the white in vinyl, using a vector program like illustrator.

As Tim said, normal printers don't have white ink. If you're using a DTG printer that does, you need to use the RIP program to accomplish it rather than Photoshop I believe.

ahh I think i know the answer to your question ash213 on the 'white ink'...

You are going to have a near impossible time making the first print using heat press transfers(not impossible but you're going to have to use an xacto knife to cut out the white manually.. or a vinyl cuter i guess.). The examples you posted are screen printed. If you read into the process a bit more it will make sense how it works. take a look at this video on youtube.

.

you will see that when preparing a screen, they print out each color in BLACK ink. that way they can burn the black ink or 'positive' into the screen and use the physical textile ink to determine the color of the print on the shirt. watch the video it will help.

No, you just never posted it. We can't edit a post without leaving a visible record.

Correction: you attempted to post it, but you made an error, which I fixed. You can see above what an edited post looks like.

Here is a suggestion for your first question: check your version of Photoshop to see if you have an Effect called "Photocopy". It will be in the menu list that contains filters and effects. That MAY give the desired effect.

You can print this on a heatpress and it will be fine. You will have to take an xacto knife or some sort of sissors and cut around the sonic picture before you press it to the shirt.. The white in the paper will act as the 'white ink'

This design is much different from the first you posted (one 1 color boris one) The only way you're going to get white to show up on a heatpress is in the actual heatpress paper itself. The big difference in the sonic vs the boris one is the outline. for the white to show up on the boris one, you would have to cut that out of the heatpress paper for it to show up. hope this helps.
