Default steps to producing screen ready art???

I'd like to hear from you pro's on the following steps for producing art for tshirt screen printing.

1. scan in original art or your picture to trace
2. draw out design in Illy or vector program
3. export to photoshop for color
4. sep all art using photoshop

Id appreciate hearing how you guys do it if you do it differently. I do realize that each job has its own peculiarities.

Thanks
Brian

if you are talking about art with simple spot colors, you could do the whole thing in illustrator. there is a spot color swatch pallet you can choose your colors from, and illustrator will allow you to print separations. this is how i do it.

if your artwork is more complex and requires another separation method like indexing, then you would want to use photoshop. there are forum members who can give you better information about these types of seps than i can.

I work in print production and I reckon its probably the best way to get your seperations in illustrator you can even set up custom spots and assign them to individual objects so that they will each seperate individually

also your artwork would have crisper edges if done in illustrator - if you rasterize these files and bring them in to photy I've noticed that you get blurry edges.

but I guess it depends on what kind of effect you want - you can get some pretty cool effects with the big splattery brushes in photoshop.
