Default PS CS3/Illustrator CS3/CorelDraw X3- Vector Help!!!

I have intricate hand drawn designs that I'm trying to convert to vector. I scanned the images into PS cleaned the images and made them solid black. The image quality is still the same on 300dpi, pixelated.
I imported to Corel X3 did Trace did the same in Illustrator CS3 I even did it in VectorMagic. The problem is the image comes out with curve irregularities. The color gets distorted. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a vector clean image.

My designs are "tribal" like by the way. If that helps with visualizing my problem.

I intend to screen print these designs and convert segments into fonts.

Thanks in advance for any advice

I'd recommend tracing them by hand with the pen tool, as opposed to depending on the auto-trace options.

Try going to artworksource.com and let them do it with their program and save yourself the headache for now, til you can get the software that can do it for you.

If they are just one color designs, after converting them to a black line art in Photoshop, make it a bitmap (with the halftone screen) and you'll be set to print. No RIP or vector needed.

I've been using Illustrator for many years as a graphic designer and never found a good use for "auto trace". I agree with cycocyco...just use the pen tool.

I appreciate all of your suggestions. I'm in a hasty state of constructing my designs at the moment. I may just rock with the ugly pixelated digital look and blend it with the vector look. It may produce an interesting artistic and abstract result. I will remember you guys after my line prospers and send you an email so I can give you some gear to show my appreciation.

Peace and Blessings
