Default file types for printing

Hey everyone,
I've been using corel paint to create different t-shirt designs. When I am done designing my images it gives me different saving options: .rif, .tif, .psd, .bmp, .gimp, and .jpg. I also have the choice between creating a RGB file or CMYK file.

Can anyone let me know which of theses options is the proper one for printing. I want all of my designs to be easy for the printers to use.

thank you
-Nick

Different printers like different formats. The norm I would say is jpg. But ask your printer specifically.

Photopaint is a raster program and is fine for DTG printing, use jpg tiff png with the RGB setting. If its to be screen printed it needs to be in vector with spot colors or gradients saved as CDR or EPS.
Good luck, John

Is this for screenprint?

Most screenprinters will handle .ai files.
If you want a two colour job make sure that the file is defined in Pantones not as CMYK or RGB colours (the document is still CMYK or RGB).
Convert all text to outlines.
Talk to your printer, he may have preferences, make his life easy and you'll get a better job.

I'm a graphic designer and process the artwork for a local screen printer. I set each color to a pantone color. If I need white, I use Pantone cool gray 1. Then I print to a PDF with separations. I use separations (Host Based) and choose page information to print. Hope it helps to get a perspective of what some may do with the file. Thanks.

Two, three, four five colours - you should use Pantones as described by Wykedgrin.
