Help needed for preparing image to print with Roland printer/cutter
Hi,
I tried to look for solutions, but I didn't find anything really helpful.
I have some comic art images, which I want to print and cut with a Roland SP300 and I need to prepare the images for the cutting in Corel Draw, but I am using Corel Draw the first time.
Can somebody tell me, which tools I have to use to define the contours?
I import the images from transparent PNG files, but Corel Draw makes some strange background colors. How do I delete them and how I get the image truly transparent, so Roland doesn't cut the image false?
I don't want to learn Corel, so I don't want to read pages of manuals with useless features. I just need the few steps or at least an advice into the right direction.
I use Photoshop for my graphical works and I am happy with it. Corel is really just for the cutting preparation.

we use cutstudio for print and cut solutions - you can bring the image into cutstudio and have it find the outline of the graphic if the cutline is simple - you can also draw it iin cutstudio - might save you the time to work with corel - not sure what roland product you use to print to the sp300 we use a gx24

Try exporting to EPS (using Postscript 2) and then import that into Corel.
As for how to set up the Contour, it's probably best to read:
That will go over how to set up the CutContour spot color, then you just apply it with a hairline stroke on whatever shape you want to cut. You may need to trace your art with the Bezier tool, or use some other shapes to create your cut path. I always include a little bit of a bleed in my artwork as my cutter isn't 100% spot on. Once you're done, export everything as EPS from Corel and you should be able to import that into VersaWorks and be able to print/cut without a problem.

Corel does not really like png files, it does things like you have discribed, export you photshop as a tiff.
When you import into Corel you will now have to create a cut line were you want the image to get cut out. You can only cut that vector portion. there are various ways to do it but none are quick and easy.
You could use the trace function in Corel but beware it rarely produces usuable results.
You will probably have to draw those lines and that is something that does take time to learn, it is one of the more intimidating parts of Corel.
You are not going to want to end up with alot of separate elements that get cut, you just will not be happy with the results.
The color of the final cut line will have to be specific for you friends cut line that he has programed, this is something he could probably change.
Learning Corel is a GOOD thing you can really do alot and then your files will be ready to process.
I wish I had a better hand on the raster end of design cause being versatile in raster and vector and being able to put the two together is what you would ultimatly want.
