Default Versaworks No Like Me

Okay, I'm doing my best not to slam my head into the wall and feeling rather embarrassed. I've been a Photoshop and Illustrator user for more than 12 years and didn't think I could come across anything that would phase me. Then a Versacamm VP-540 came into my life. Great machine...but I'm having an issue that is no doubt so simple I can't see it. Let me explain...

I got my Versacamm a week ago. The process has been interesting, but I'll leave that to another post. I have literally thousands of graphics I've used on shirts and other materials for years, so I was ready to let loose. Had no problem bringing in graphics, getting my CutContour lines around them and exporting EPS to Versaworks. Did a few dozen things as training this past week without problem. Then I did something on a new graphic I created for a lapel design and I've got my CutContour line on it, but Versaworks won't see the line? Hmmmm...I checked all the obvious things. Even loaded the Roland Versaworks palette and used their CutContour color to no avail. Was worried it may have been a transparency issue, so I made doubly sure that when exporting I set the transparency to Opaque. No go.

Now I know the years have not been kind on my brain...maybe it's this stickin cold I've been fighting, but I'm just not figuring this one out.

BTW...at the shop I use a computer with all my graphics software on it and with the Versaworks client & server. At home I use my laptop. Has anyone figured out how you can use Versaworks when not actively on the network with the printer, for offline RIPing and for verifying everything is good with your cut line? Would be valuable for me to be able to do that as I do a lot of graphics design work at home.

Thanks in advance for anyone who takes pity on me.

Which version of VersaWorks are you running? The latest version of 3.0 actually can hide the cut line if not selected in the "Cut" tab of versaworks. If you have selected "print only" the marching ants will not be visible.
I hope this helps.

Good question. I would assume since the machine was just shipped to me from Roland it included the latest version of Versaworks. I have Print & Cut selected. I will check the version though when I'm in the shop tomorrow.

One other thing to check.
Load the Roland Versawork library directly within Illustrator. A new dialog box will appear that only has the "CutContour" color swatch in it. Select your cut line and click on the "CutContour". Set your stroke to .025 or .035 and save.

Also make sure that the cut line is the uppermost layer in Illustrator.

Tried that as soon as I ran into the issue. I'm using .028 so I'm going to assume that's not the issue. I'm sure it's going to be something stupid I'm overlooking.

Make sure you're exporting using Encapsulated Postscript Language Level 2 on your dialog. Other than that, I'd suggest just trying to spot any changes that may cause the difference from your old graphics to the new ones. I've had problems before moving from CMYK to RGB and having the CutContour change for whatever reason (even though it's a spot color), but I've only had this problem with Corel which is what I primarily use.

Not a bad idea! I'd been moving back and forth between CMYK and RGB to see how it affected my saturation so might be something with that. I believe the default on Illustrator EPS is level 2...but certainly worth a look. Thanks.
