Default how to apply an arc in AI

Hello,

My question is how do I apply an arc to text with out stretching the letters around?? I know how to do the arc but I'm looking for a little different look. I'm trying to get each letter to turn around an arc without it tweaking the letter.. If that made sense?

this is what i would like to accomplish, but I did this by hand

is there a tool that will do this for me in AI??

thanks, Paul

If you just want to set type along a path (or circle in your case) just make a circle and select the "type along a path" tool. It should be nested in with the regular type tool. Click on the path you want to type on and you should be good to go.

Do you mean that your text has been "converted to outlines", or that you still have editable text w/ a stroke around it?

there's an arc effect right in illustrator, without using a path

Effects [menu] > Warp > Arch (+ others)

If you outline the text it changes it to artwork and is no longer considered type ... therefore you can't use the type along a path method.

Put the type on a path and give it an outline before converting to outlines and you'll be fine.
