Hello,

I thought I'd share this quick tutorial for creating inkjet-safe halftones using only adobe illustrator

The image i have created here has:
--- 100% black Text
--- 50% black plant image
--- A Gradient from 100% Black to 0% Black

Step 1. Open your illustration you need to halftone

Step 2. Select the items you need to turn into halftones

Step 3. Select Effects --> Pixelate --> Color Halftone

Step 4. Enter a number into the top line (shown highlighted in the photo) the lower the number, the finer the dots will be

Step 5. Print to your Inkjet Printer!
NO EXPENSIVE RIP SOFTWARE NEEDED!!!!

This page was printed on an Epson 1270 using the stock Mac OS X drivers on plain paper.

Output quality was set on high

yup. it can be done in photoshop too!

click the pics below to see them larger

1. Open your photo or image

2. Select Image > Mode > Grayscale

3. Then Convert the image again, this time to Bitmap

4. Now a dialog will pop up
set the dialog to 300 (i find that best on my inkjet, experiment a bit to see whats best for you)

5. After that, a second dialog will popup
This time set the lpi to 35 (i use 35 on 110 mesh, general rule of thumb is 3.5 divided by your mesh count)
and in the lower menu select "Halftone Screen"

6. SCORE! and there you have it! Inkjet Halftones in Photoshop!

in photo shop i mean can you do it and keep it in color.

this is a much LONGER process than I have time to spill on the forums right now, but yes, it can be done

I made a photoshop action that I used to sell on ebay, called EZSkreenz.

EZSkreenz makes CMYK Inkjet seps from any picture in about 1 minute

Give me a day or two, maybe I'll build a tutorial on how to do it manually

Is that as good a halftone or can it be fine tuned in AI.? How does a rip compare? How does ghost script compare?
