You can create the text, and then create outlines, expand, then ungroup each letter and apply a stroke to each letter, or bring the grouped word to photoshop and do a stroke to that image...

Hope that helps

You can do double strokes on your text and #'s. I believe first you have to turn your text into outlines. Right click on the text and choose "create outlines". Once you do this give your text a white outline or whatever color your background is supposed to be then go to "appearance" palette and click on the upper right button with the arrow on it. In that menu you will see an option that says "add new stroke". This will add another stroke around your current one. Simply just adjust the weight and turn it the same color as your text and you should have your text with an outer outline. Hopefully this is what you were looking for.

Thanks, When I do a stroke on a text it seems to make the text smaller, the stroke looks good but seems to make the text skinny.. I don't know if that made sense

Is there a way for the stroke not to cut into the text?

When you add the stroke look in the stroke palette and you should see an option called "align stroke". It will show three squares beside it. If you click on the one farthest to the right it will put your stroke outside the text without cutting into it which is what you would want. The one in the middle puts the stroke completely inside and the first one is the default which puts the stroke right in the middle.

I just tried the double stroke thing and it acted a bit screwy so if you have trouble with it try this: Create text, convert to outlines, add stroke color of background, make sure to size it how you want it and use the align stroke to not have it cutting into the text then copy the text and "CTRL B" to paste the text directly behind the original. Then make that stroke thicker so it shows up around the front stroke and change it the color of the text.

Expand your text. Then....Object-->Path-->Offset Path. If the object has a fill, clear the fill and set a stroke only.

Thank GOD, someone is finally talking about illustrator. I hope that I can finally get this question answered.
Far Clothing, I hope that I am not intruding on your post, if so then I am sorry, I am just on the brink of self destruction with Illustrator cs3.
OKAY, I am making my designs with no problem at all. The only issue that I have is trying to create a correct path offset in order to create cut lines for my Graphtec ce5000-60 plotter. When I use different layers to create my design, I merge everything when I am happy with my work. This is where I am having problems. I then select the entire design, goto path-path-offset and make my cut line to be transfered to a separate layer to send to my cutter. No problem.
Once I create it, all of the lines that make up the design stay selected along with the outline. It doesn't just leave the outline selected so I can send it to it's own layer. I have tried deselecting the design lines one by one, but this would take hours literally. I was told that it is so much easier to do in Corel but I don't know Corel. Can someone please help me out with this. I am printing to JPSS as well as Alpha Gold Paper. I can deal with the JPSS because I usually hane cut these since they are for light shirts and I don't need to be as critical. For the Opaques, I really need to be able to contour cut and weed my designs..
Thanks ahead of time.
