Default Color Separations and Photoshop

Anyone use Photoshop CS3 for color separations?? Before I start trying it with photoshop I was curious if it is as difficult as some say.

It's the best program for color separation in my opinion. You can separate any type of image with any number of colors with very complex gradients or simple spot colors. I do all color seps in photoshop using channels. Once you become proficient with the techniques, it's hard to use anything else. Also when using the channels, what you see on screen is what you get on the press- 80-90% accurate and very predictable.

I tried using color separation programs but they could never do what I wanted them to do. I started doing the color seps myself in Photoshop and the results are perfect. I guess when you first start out on anything it's difficult until you get the hang of it. I can't imagine using anything else for my color seps.

Does anyone have any tips for seping full color artwork with a lot of skin tones? I have (and use occaisionally) VueRite SPVR software, and it works well for basic simulated process, but I'd rather do them by hand in photoshop. I've been trying to find resources for this type of info, and have had no luck. If anybody knows of any good tutorials, or books, or any info really, I would be forever in your debt.
Cheers!
