You need to get the artist to sign off on transferring the copyright to you. Just because you paid doesn't *automatically* transfer the copyright to you.

Yes.

Here's an example: Work for Hire Agreement Contract (link inside)

Visit the copyright office and apply for a copyright: U.S. Copyright Office

Also read here: I'm paying my attorney $300 per design to copyright them? Is there a cheaper way?

Good links to have and good question, as many are confused about rights

I'm pretty sure you would copyright it in the country in which it would be used.

You certainly need something from the designer saying they actually created the design. Even top flight designers have been known to copy other peoples designs.

What you don't want is someone accusing you of stealing their copyright design. The one downside to using designers, is you can never be one hundred percent certain it is their own original work you are putting your name to.

The person who takes the photo automatically has a copyright on it as soon as it is created. It does not have to be registered.

So unless you took it, or obtained permission to use it, you don't have rights to use it. I would recommend going to a stock photo site and purchasing photos, just check the license agreement before you buy.
