Hi, I've decided on the X3 version, and see them on Ebay. I have two Q's for anyone who bought off ebay:
1. Did you get a legit corel? If you don't mind, who was the seller? You can pm me if we aren't allowed to share that info in the forum posts.
2. Did you buy a Full version, or the OEM (not educational or upgrade.) How did that work out for you, buying off Ebay?

I got mine on ebay and works fine. Don't get the edu version it doesn't have the vba. I will have to look up what vendor I got mine from. I think it was around $100.00.

I bought mine last October for about $91.00 w/shipping for full version, but the seller is no longer a registered user

It didn't come with any of the manuals, but we paid full price for the one that Michael has on his computer, so we have the manuals.

I also bought 12 on ebay last July for about $80 w/shipping because I needed it on my laptop for running the Artanium c88+ set up. This one was OEM, so I won't recommend this seller.

Thanks, Rob and Debz. I see both the Full versions and the OEM versions on Ebay.

Debz, you got an OEM version and you have no qualms with it?

I don't want to buy the OEM and later regret not going for a full. Some ebay sellers are saying they have a full version, but it's oem. I want to be able to install it on more than one computer, and also qualify for future upgrades, which I read I can't do with OEM versions. But they seem so cheap now that X4 is out. If it's cheap like this, why would I want to pay for an upgrade when after a while, the last prior version is this affordable. ???

It didn't say anywhere in the auction it was an OEM. I didn't find out until I got it. I was a bit upset at the time, but I needed it. My laptop is still running xp, and has so little memory capability, so I knew I wasn't ever going to upgrade it.

And yes, even x4 is up for sale on ebay already, so why upgrade when you can get the full version for less.

I just want to add I bought software from Ebay and ended up in a big legl ordeal. I would be real cautious buying from a ebay seller. If it isn't a legitimate copy(you have no real way of knowing,They can say anything),you can get in a real pickle. I bought what I thought was legal software and was notified a few months later that I was going to be sued for buying pirated software. Ebay and the seller cut a deal to supply all names who purchasd ths software. They were not be sued, just the people who bought from them. I'm very cautious with Ebay and software. ...... JB

I bought my X3 online (don't remember the site), but I don't have all of the macros, so does this mean that I don't have the full version of X3? How can I check if I have it or not?

JB- Your situation is exactly why I am asking if anyone did get a legal copy off one of the ebay sellers, I really want to avoid a situation like yours. I can't tell if a copy is bootleg or not, I don't buy much software, but I'm hoping that someone who's familiar with Corel might have gotten the real deal there from someone. Thanks for the post. Sorry that happened to you. That is a real shame.

Debz - I see both versions on Ebay, but sometimes, the are calling it a Full Version in one area, and the OEM in another. lol. Sometimes, they even say Full Version - OEM, lol. So it seems they don't know what they have sometimes. I am seeing auctions, and if I can pick up the real full version for relatively the same price as the OEM, I'd rather do that. I would feel a bit upset if someone sent me the OEM after listing it as FV, too. At least it kind of worked out for you....

Kimsie, some are listing the part number on ebay, and it seems some part numbers are ending in CMB and others are OEM. I can get what the oem ending is for, but I am guessing a part number that ends in CMB might stand for Corel Mini Box, which might be the actual real FV. That is part of what I am trying to research on the net, but I'm not turning up anything definitive.

That's when it occurred to me to turn to this big group of friends on TSF and just ask if anyone got a FV legal copy of Corel X3 off ebay, and who was the seller.... hey, it could happen!! Someone may have an answer.

I have been working with mine for the past 9 months. X4 is also out now. I think I paid $90 or $100 for X3 and it's a great program.

One last thing - I did ask if the version was the retail version and not the OEM version prior to ordering. The one I ordered is just the DVD case with the Serial Number Key from Corel in the package. You can tell it's the real deal and not a boot legged version. I had called Corel to verify and they stated it was a good, legal version. I just Googled the name "Coreldraw Graphics Suite X3" and saw a few version in the $80-100 range. Make sure you get the full version and not the upgrade.

It's not just EBay that sells pirated software. Some high street retailers have been busted too.

Many programs are available as digital download, from reputable online sources. Saves the cost of buying a box you'll never use.

Another problem with buying used software is that the registered licence has to be transferred from buyer to seller. Just because you have the discs and serial number does not mean you have the software licence.

Hi Kelly, as I mentioned in my earlier post, my X3 was bought off E bay. The product key says Corel on it,as does the packageing. Seems legit. I bought mine from Compuwise on E bay. I wonder how a person can tell if they have a legit copy, and not a boot leg?

I'm not sure we can tell if it is legit. When I bought from Ebay, I thought I was getting a actual legit software. I got caught up in a huge sweep. I protested,but in the end Ebay sold out all the buyers. ..... JB

Everyone assumes that bootleg, or counterfeit software is going to arrive on an unprinted disk, with a hand scrawled serial number written down.

The people that do this sort of thing on a professional level will print up the disk, provide authentic looking documentation and even copy the retail box. It would take an expert to differentiate the better copies.

Only by buying direct from the software vendor, or a mainstream retailer like Amazon, could you ever be totally sure that you were buying genuine merchandise.
