Default adobe illustrator question

I have just started using illustrator, I have the cs version. How do you combine 2 pics so that you can see the one below where the top pics ends? Im only doing black and white tattoo style art. Thanks

paste each picture on a seperate layer

Thanks, I tried that but the white around the 1st pic covers the 2nd pic.

You want to use pathfinder/divide.
Select the top graphic and click on pathfinder/divide.
this will break the image apart and remove the white from the center of the object.

By 'pics' are you talking about placed photos or are you talking about vector art?
