Where should I look to start using Corel for the first time.
Where should I look to start using Corel for the first time.
Ok, I've been using photoshop elements for the past year or so to do some basic graphic work. I know it's not really meant for that.
I bought Corel Draw X3 for a really good price. The problem is I have Corel Draw 12 but never really used it. I want to get to the point that I can use Corel descently, not perfect but acceptable. My question is where to start, are there any descent X3 books to help me start? I'd like to have something to be able to refer to. Our local community college has no Corel classes only photoshop.
A good book to start me off so I can start playing around with it would help. Basically Corel is very foreign to me so if I'm going to learn it I'd like to learn the basics the right way from the beginning. Graphic work is my weak spot so I need to invest some time into it. I've gotten past the point that photoshop elements can get me.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I don't know about books, but i can tell you that there are tons of free sources available on the web. This forum for one - you can do a search based on the "corel" keyword and lots of threads should come up. Corel.com - the official website, under the link Resources you'll find links to Tutorials, Community Sites and more. There are also forums on the net for corel users. I also personally really like the Help tool that comes with the software, most of the time a quick search for a specific task/action I'm looking for brings up the relevant instructions and tools.

One really great place for tutorials is advancedartist.com , they have some really great tutorials there.
There is also lynda.com for corel tutorials. I am not sure of books but there are a ton of tutorial videos out there

I'll look into them. Thank you for the heads up. I'll pick up everything I can. I think between all the suggestions here I should start to get at least a small good foundation to work with.
Allot of it will have to be done by trial and error.
Thank you all. And I'll say it again, this forum is just like family sometimes. Always willing to help out when they can.

There is no quick way around learning corel etc, i've spent many many hours learning a few different programs, some i like more than others. The resourses mentioned above are all good and i find it better to see something done/explained than to read about it in a book.

Re: Where should I look to start using Corel for the first time.
I have Corel Unleashed. I've done the free tutorials on advancedartist.com and they're awesome. I'm looking forward to purchasing the entire set. Found some nice tuts on youtube as well.
Re: Where should I look to start using Corel for the first time.
And besides, Unleashed, Advanced Artist (I have the whole set, worth every penny) and Lynda. HP has free online classes for a lot of software, my local college only has classes for PS too, but an online Corel class for 200 bucks or so, I checked it out, it's the exact same class Hewlett Packard has for free. I wish I could find a hands on class too.

I learned more about Corel watching a couple of their free videos than I was able to learn on my own in weeks... I bought their set of DVD's, I've only had time to go through a couple of the tutorials but there is some really great stuff in them.
