Default How do you "merge" "puzzle" or "simplify" a vector file for flex/flock printing?

Hi Everyone,

We are in the process of opening up a Spreadshirt shop. We have tried to upload EPS files for our logos to be printed via the flex/flock process.
Our files were rejected for the following reason:
"In order to be approved for plot printing your graphic must not have any overlapping or layered areas. All of the vectors that we approve must be 'puzzled' rather than layered on top of one another. All overlapping areas of your graphic must be simplified or merged through to create a puzzle like affect. For example if your vector was a red triangle on top of a black circle, if you move the triangle and you see black below the triangles previous position your design is layered. If you see a transparent area or "negative space" in the triangles previous position the design is puzzled."

The Spreadshirt support dude (Jake) advised me to open the file, select paths, go to effect> pathfinder> merge. it doesn't appear to have an effect. What can I do? Help, Please!

I just had the same issue in corel.. I used Merge for connecting everything as one layer but found another option within the same grouping that did what you are looking for.

It should be in the same options "minimize" foreground.. something to that affect. play with the 4 or 5 that are provided. It worked for me.

After 'merge' hit the 'expand' button and you'll be set.

Thank you for helping!

I cannot notice if the "expand" option changed anything. I'm going to try and submit the design to spreadshirt and see what happens...

The option you are looking for would be "trim"

so maybe research "trimming objects with illustartor"

something along those lines..

it's called trim in corel, assuming its the same in illustrator.
