For a couple months now i've been doing simple 1 color designs for t-shirts and decals and want to start with 2 colors.

I have photoshop cs2 and illustrator cs2 but im not proficient on these programs yet.

So my question is how do i do the layer seperation to cut with my vinyl cutter or the outline of my text then the inside... does that make sense? I seen a couple tutorials on youtube on double layering but just shows you how to lay them on top of each other. Not how to actually do this on the program itself...

What im really trying to learn is what tools do i use on my programs or program to achieve this do i use photoshop or illustrator? Would appreciate if anybody can guide me on te proper steps to achieving this or a nice tutorial on how to do it .Thanks
