What I want to do is create some artwork in illustrator where the main image is made up of a collage of the same image only smaller.

I suppose the best way to explain is that say I has the word TWO, it would be made up of the number 2 repeated.

How do I do this, create a page of repeating 2's then add a layer over the top with some kind of cutout

I've probably not explained it well but all help appreciated

If you are trying to place an image (2's) into text, do this: place your 2's image into Illustrator then create your text (two) with the Type tool (T) and position it on top of the 2's. With the Selection tool, select both the 2's image and the type, and from the Object menu, select Clipping Mask>Make,
