I may be going to the printer tomorrow...will my design translate on to shirts???
What’s up fellas, I’ve actually had a profile here for a while however I got preoccupied with other business ideas and my t-shirt ideas took a back seat to things that required less upfront capitol to get started. Guess what though? I finally got the money together and I think I’m going to have my first design printed up as early as tomorrow. I found a guy in my area who is going to do 36 fruit of the loom t-shirts (I believe 100% cotton) for 6 bucks a shirt and a 25 screen set up. That’s the lowest price I could find for a local screen printer (bay area). One where I could visit the shop and touch the shirts for myself. I have a one color print that I designed myself. The concept for the website is funny t-shirts derived from hip-hop lyrics. I was contemplating a way I could post my design without having the my concept "lifted" and I came up with the conclusion that I could post the art itself without posting the text. I know the text is what I want. My main concern is that what I did in photoshop will translate correctly for the look I’m going for. What you see in stores. I want that gritty rocker look that’s has been making its way over to the hip-hop crowd. I’ve got the distorted gritty look to the AK47 and then I went as far as to pattern over more of that “speckle/splatter” stuff in photoshop. I want to get the opinion of folks here to see if this will translate over to the style I see in stores pac sun. Or maybe the speckles are too big, too small, or whatever….I know nothing! Thanks in advane for your help...

Well compared to Pac Sun, I dont see it fitting in that much. But I'm sure you have more than just a gun going across the chest... Maybe some more info would help... Also If you've ever seen the Show Rob and Big, Rob wears a shirt w/ all the guns on it. its sorta similar to this... THe place that makes those shirts is called Rogue Status- I have a couple of their shirts including the gun show shirt. They're probly my favorite t-shirt brand.
But It looks fine if thats the look your going for. Nothing wrong w/ the spec's
Re: I may be going to the printer tomorrow...will my design translate on to shirts???
Yah its definitely not just a gun. I posted the image up for the sole purpose of seeing if my imaging was on point and if visually the picture would translate to something that you might see on a shirt designed by a real designer. The shirt will say something on it, but I took the words off to protect my concepts until the shirt is actually made available for sale. Rob and big is a good fit too...I said pac sun cuz thats all I could think off of hand. I mostly by clothes from urban designers like sean jean and g-unit, but brands like famous stars and stripes have been bringing a more rock style to urban culture.

Looks cool, I would sudgest reverse speckle. Dont know if that makes sence but you can see the clear outline of the AK and just some dust around it. Use a splatter brush with erase tool so that you take away from the crisp outline making it look more gritty, grungy, hardcore. . . more hardcore.

Re: I may be going to the printer tomorrow...will my design translate on to shirts???
Also wouldn't printing a shirt with lyrics from hip hop songs be infringing on the original author/owner/ of the lyrics? Especially with production companies, music labels and such, usually the artist or writer don't own the lyrics so you could be fighting a battle with major record label, or even their backers who are usally viacom, time warner and etc.
So as I read you said funny shirts derived from lyrics, just hope the lyrics themselves won't be printed verbatim because that wouldn't be too original since you didn't come up with the lyrics...
Just my.06 cents

Re: I may be going to the printer tomorrow...will my design translate on to shirts???
Thanks for the advice everyone and a little reassurance that I wasn't too off mark with my design style and formatting. To answer your questions no I am not formating in jpeg just put that up here in order to upload to photobucket. I am also not using direct hip-hop quotes or anything. I'm just using new phrases and lingo and putting my own twist on them to make them comical. I really can't say too much without putting things on the web before my release date. I was going to go to the printer today, but I decided to update the design to a newer model gun so I'll be working on that this afternoon when I get off work and possibly going into tomorrow. Wish me luck! I will post the revised design (without text) when its done. Thanks again for your help.
