Default Design Help (grunge look)

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble on this design for my youth camp. I've never attempted a grunge look before, and in my opinion it's not really looking very balanced... having trouble with it coming together. Maybe I'm just being picky, you tell me.

I like paint splatters and the spirals, so I'm trying to implement those features.

Also need help on the color scheme. I'm pretty happy with the color of the type, but the rest I'm not so sure.

Please give me some pointers. Constructive criticism is very welcome. I can have a psd file available for download if anyone wants to mess with it.

Thanks,
Ryan

The colors are nice, but I think there's just a little too much going on in the background making it a bit chaotic. I would like to see what it would look like with only the type and the filigree.

the design looks really cool... it would be interesting to see it with other shirt color backgrounds...
and maybe have the grunge fade out at the edges...

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback. Here is the design without the smudges.

If I changed the color I'd need a new color scheme. Any ideas?
And I'm not really understanding about the fading out... could you be a little more specific?

Thanks,
Ryan

The design looks good. I like the way you made the background elements more subtle than your original one.

But the blue is a little hard on my eyes. Maybe it's just because I am old.

Hi Ryan,

Maybe try the type in one of these colors, #CCCC33, #CCCC66, #CCCCCC, or #CC9933, these colors compliment your existing color scheme, I think the blue is a little hard on the eyes as queerrep says.

Hope this helps

The original color scheme works better imo. There is more contrast. I like the one in post #5 the best.

Agreed - the blue is a little hard to see.

Is there any way to put a little "ghosting" or highlight behind the blue? I think it looks fantastic, and the blue would pop a bit more good job!
(in Photoshop, "outer glow" type of effect).

I liked the original design best, although I couldn't see the large version for some reason. The colors in the original version were definately better.

If you were worried about how "busy" the original was, you could always make the background graphic closer to the shirt color so it doesn't compete with the main elements as much.
