Default New Scanner

I use a older CanonScan FB620U. Have had it for several years. Works fine.
I think its a 600x1200 dpi scanner.
I was wondering if it be worth it to update to a new higher dpi one like the 4800x9600 scanners to scan photos and etc.
Just wondering if I'd get better more depth ,detail and color scans if I did.

Thanks
Mark
