Basically it involves creating two copies of the same image, but shown at different angles, the angle between essentially being the angle formed between your eyes and the point at which they're looking. The red and blue (or green) lenses in the glasses filter out the same color in the art, so you see the remaining color. Old stereoscopes do basically the same thing, but show you two views of the same scene, taken at different angles, and recombined in your brain. That's what gives depth to your vision . . . you're looking at an object from two angles so you sort of see "around" them a little. The old View-Master toys from the 50's were visually stunning in the effect. I had one with Santa Claus flying in his sleigh and that sucker looked like it was really suspended in a deep blue space that went on forever. Also a Bugs Bunny one . . . cwazy wabbit. |
