Default Edge Clean-Up on CS3

I am a screen printer of only a few months, and I just received a design from customer that I had to scan. After scanning, I noticed that image had extremely rough edges, and being as new to the game as I am, I didn't know how to clean up those edges. After an hour of fruitless research on how to solve this problem, I decided to mess around with it on photoshop CS3, and I found a fairly effective way to clean up those rough edges:

(1) Use the blur tool on the edges, sparingly
(2) Use the magnetic lasso tool to select the image (the magnetic lasso will draw fairly straight lines around the image, even though the edges have been blurred)
(3) Use the paint bucket tool to refill the image (will fill the image to those straight-er lines drawn by the magnetic lasso)

This is how I solved my problem, so I thought I would put it out there for others to reference. However, if there are any better effective or less time consuming techniques out there, please share. Thanks!

Was it a single color? Normally if I have to color separate, I redraw in spot channels.

Thanks for the input! I'll try these methods next time around.

This was my first posting on T-Shirt Forums, and I greatly appreciate the quality feedback.
