Default Design Set Up

Hey guys,

I was just curious how other graphic designers do this. But I've been doing t-shirt designs for over a year, and fairly successful. But everything I know has been self-taught and what I figure is how it should be done. But I was curious how you guys set up your canvas in whatever program (I use photoshop mainly with imports from illustrator) to make your designs. Like if I was to make a design that would be across the top of the shirt around the neck and sleeve, how would that be done? Any different that one that just goes straight on the chest?
I've also been asked to do a design that covers the entire shirt, hand drawn. Would I just make that in different files, then put it on a t-shirt template to show how it's laid out? Just curious, cause I've wondered about this for a while. Thanks guys.

Krist

Well yeah, they are. But how does everyone else set up your canvas for designs that flow around the collar, down the side, across the arm, etc?

i would guess it depends if you're printing on your shirt before you're making the shirt (sewing it together) or after (as you would normally press on a regular shirt). it also depends how many screens you need to print on your shirt, if your screen can cover all the material then you just need one canvas, if its a back and front design you could use 2 separate files, or even put stuff on separate layers. it's up to you how you choose to work. good luck.
