I have two questions for the more experienced t-shirt designer. First off what is the process of using a picture of a famous person found on google images? Second when buying vector packages are they ok to print out on t-shirts without worrying about copyright infringement?
no matter where you find the image...you cannot use without permission..period...
as to vector files in a package...you have to read the fine print...a lot will say it is royalty free for PERSONAL use...but that means not commercial use...other will give explicit permission for commercial use
What if the person is not famous or recognizable-an image?
I'm fairly sure that a photographer automaticly owns the copywrite to any photo he/she takes/publishes. You would need permission unless it's specificly stated "royalty free" for commersial use.

The only other way it would be legal is if the copyright is expired, copyrights expire after the life of the artist plus 70 years. An example of this would be works from van gogh which have become public domain.

US Postage stamps are public domain prior to 1978 and some feature famous people. Maybe not Jon Bonjovi - but some famous people that buyers may want.
I am searching these for sources at the time. Check the date yourself if you are interested in these works. After either 1978 or 1979, I have to nail down the specific date as it is refered to as to different dates online, USPS has copyrights on the images.
If anyone is aware of a reason these could not be used, I would like to know. Awareness is a great thing.....
