Default Monotone creation?
I'm told this great effect is called monotone and it can be achieved using photoshop or illustrator.
Can anyone point me towards a tutorial or offer advice on how to achieve the effect?

Open the image in Photoshop.

Run the highpass filter
Filter/Other/highpass
then run the threshold filter
Effects/threshold
Play with the settings to get the best result
If you run highpass first you will get more detail in the threshold conversion.

take the black and white into a vectorizing program to trace to vector for working in corel or illy.
