usually the line art/trace is done in corel or illustrator (starting with a photo or pencil sketch) and then it is colored in photoshop. Some is done all in vector but the chrome and all looks like photoshop to me
I figured it might be a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator. I can't see being able to do gradients like that in Illustrator, but I'm no expert so I figured I'd ask.

Right, but as far as printing goes, don't Photoshop gradients usually print with better detail than Illustrator gradients? Or have they improved upon that in recent years?
