if you really need it enroll at a course at your local junior college. than buy the student version than drop the class. you get all your money back when you drop the class and get the student version.

Tony, I don't think that things described on this page necessarily describe the product you'd receive from other sites selling the academic versions. I think it's just telling the product features that could be used by different consumers. Maybe I'm wrong.

Annushka, I checked back and they DO offer the academic version off the corel site for 99.00 plus FREE ground shipping
http://store.corel.com/webapp/wcs/st...0103&langId=-1
I am actually going to CALL when I place the order. I'll let everyone know how the academic version differs from the full version.

As my ex-roomate Bill always says: Beat the system before it beats you! :^) Someone pointed out your method was dishonest. Besides that point, think about this: After going through all the hassle to apply/enroll/drop out of a community college, is saving a little bit of money worth all that hassle??? Let me suggest eBay if you're looking to save some money. There are AUTHORIZED corel sellers on eBay. All you need to do is look at feedback....if someone's pulling a scam it's not very likely that they'd have 99% positive feedback and THOUSANDS of transactions. I have NEVER had a bad experience with an eBay powerseller.

I have unintentionally purchased pirated software via Ebay, even though I did my best to ensure that I was buying "the real thing". Just because someone has good feedback doesn't mean they are not selling illegal software - a pirated copy can work just fine, which accounts for the good feedback, but you might not be able to upgrade that software in the future, or it might expire in 30 days, you never know. Probably the only thing you can do to make sure would be to contact the software company and ask which Ebay sellers are "authorized". Caveat emptor.

I wouldn't doubt the corel versions of on ebay are pirated or student versions. i don't see how else they would sell it for that cheap and make a profit hrrrm.

they are both the same. my partner bought the original and i have the student version and they have all the same features, came in the same box, same booklet, same disks, the exact same program.

and i apologize if i angered anyone but it's a public school, you're paying the tax dollars, are you not? you said you were a starving student, was just trying to help! just to address that issue. peace!

I very much agree with Jasonda. Ebay is a tricky thing, and positive feedback doesn't mean all that much. When dealing with ebay you have to remember that:
  • feedback can be left by people who know the seller (if not the seller themselves)
  • there are people out there who ARE looking to purchase pirated/bootleg products, thus will be very happy with their product and will leave positive feedback (think of the ladies you see on NY streets buying fake $20 Prada wallets - you know it's a fake, they know it's a fake, yet they still get it and don't complain)
  • also there are people that CAN'T tell the difference between legit products and fakes. With software especially. People who are more or less computer savvy tend to think that everyone else is a somewhat tech-y person as well (it's a 21st century after all, right ). But there are still millions of ppl out there who are very far from technology
ebay is a great place, it's just - "buyer beware" approach should always be practiced on that site

there are some people that simply can't or won't spend FULL PRICE on software like this. Many of these people are on eBay looking for a bargain. Any smart software company will offer a LIMITED amount of their products through a vehicle like this. Better to make SOME money, than lose the customer altogether. Also, please do a search in the forums for corel student version or academic version. I posted a letter I received from customer service today about the student version and what it offers and what it doesn't. I think I'm leaning toward buying a FULL version from an AUTHORIZED corel seller on eBay......

i'm just telling my experience. my friend bought the full version at fryes for about 500 dollars and i bought mine for 60 bux tax included at fullerton community college and they were the exact same copy. so i guess someone got ripped off. besides, it's the 80/20 principle with us. we just revise the graphics, we don't make them. we touch them up, but if you have the full version and you're on the expert level than the more power to you. the next time we speak you'll be the designer for pepsi/coke. peace!

j/k. it's good to know all ur options. i have photoshop but i abide by the 80/20 principle.

Hi everyone,

here's an update to this thread that I hope some might find helpful.
  • I just purchased CorelDraw X3 Graphic Suite from Corel's official website
  • It is the student/teacher version for $99.00, free shipping
  • Received it in about 4 business days
  • Case includes 4 CDs - program files, clipart, fonts, and the fourth one I haven't had the chance to check yet (it's gonna be some more goodies)
  • Besides a case with the above-mentioned CDs there is NOTHING else included in the product - such as manuals, instructions or anything else. Literally nothing
That said, I'm very happy with my purchase, and I think for $99.00 I got my money's worth, from a reliable source, without any headaches.

Go to www.unleash.com and get the Corel UNLEASHED DVD. It will teach you quite a bit on using CorelDRAW and PhotoPaint.

Time to start rendering.....
