Default Can I import or re-create my Broderbund designs?

I've narrowed my cutter purchase down to either the Roland Stika 12" or a less expensive uscutter.
All my graphic designs were created using (the only software I have) Broderbund Printshop, Borochures and more.
My designs are mostly text that have been shaped with curved words and some simple shapes added.

My question is:, to cut my decals/vinyl heat transfers with the software included with these cutters (cutstudio and signblazer) will I be able to either import my designs from Broderbubd or re-create them using this software?

Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I am not familiar with Broderbunds software. The main thing would be communication. The cutters use vector files to know what to cut. Broderbund might use vector or it might use raster. The cutter software will probably not recognize the Broderbund format. You might have to do some work around, such as exporting the file to a format that they recognize. Such as an .eps file format. You might even have to print to a PDF and then try and use that or use a program such as Illustrator or Corel to open the file and save it out as a format that the cutters can read. Sound like fun?

I had printshop many MANY years ago. I am pretty sure the files it creates is a program specific file, probably a raster file. You might be able to export it, but you will still need to get some other program to get it into the cutter. I think you need to tell us the file ext. of printshop and then what are your export options. Then ask the vendor of your machine what software comes with it and will it import the file extensions you have..

It is proprietary and only exports raster formats. I don't know of a cutter software that will cut a raster format without first vectorizing. You'll probably have to invest in something like CorelDraw and trace the raster images to vector format....Or send what you have to a conversion service, which isn't that expensive, and start designing in vector format from now on. Either way, I see a shiny new vector drawing program in your near future.

In Printshop 21 . . for transfer design . . it saves it as a .tsh format . .
you can also export the design and save it in these formats ...
jpg,
bmp 16 million colors,
bmp 256 colors,
png,
gif,
pxc,
tiff,
wmf,
and pmo,

NOT 100% sure . . but I think you can import the design into Corel
I will have to ask the neighbor . . he uses both . .

Printshop 22 has a few more perks . . I don't have that version on this computer . . . (I will when Santa brings me a new pooter for Cmas ;o]

The "wmf" could be vector or raster. But, I'd put my money of raster. It's a Microsoft format.

If Mike is doing contour cutting, then he could possible get away with raster and use CutStudios trace features.

Awsome and helpful info everyone!! Thank you.

I won't be doing contour cutting, so that won't be an issue.

It sounds like I may need to invest in CorelDraw. I've seen CorelDraw on eBay bundled with another software that's supposed to make sending files to a cutter less difficult. It's $295.00. Does that about right for that software?

My printshop doesn't have that many export options. Looks like there is a new software in my near future.
Fortunately, my designs are not that complicated and should be easy to re-produce in a new software I know nothing about!!
Looks like me and the ol' computer are going to be spending lots of time together again!

When you do get new software..try to get something more in line with the industry...Corel Draw can be found on line for various prices...try amazon.com and see what they offer.. and if you are a student/teacher and sometimes minister...you can get price break from Corel

So, does this mean I will NOT be able to re-create my designs using the software that comes with the cutter??? i.e. cutstudio or signblazer.

Budgetwise, I think I'll wait and see if the sortware provided with the cutter will do what I need. i.e. text grafix.

I found that I can import my bitmap files from Broderbund Printshop into Inkscape. Vectorize using the trace feature and export as a EPS file. Done!

Now my question is, if I'm doing 1 color graphics, should I use 256 color bitmap or 16 million?
