Default Teachnique Question! Can't figure out

Hi everyone this is my first post, and excited to have found this forum. I have a design question. Has anyone seen Affliction clothing? The art is very detailed and I'm wondering how this was done? It looks not done in Adobe illustrator program. Instead it looks like a illustration that was hand sketched than scanned (rasterized) but I'm not sure. Isn't the best way to print shirts in a vector format?

And if that is true than how come? Is it because the line art is crisper and cleaner? What if the raster is high rez enough?

thanks guys

PS> I'd post a link to affliction clothing but not sure if i'm allowed

Best, yes - but certainly not only (plus some people do prefer raster to vector).

Yup. Plus it's just useful to design in vector in case you decide to change image size later for whatever reason.

Then it's totally fine to use.

It can occasionally get complicated what is and isn't allowed link wise Big companies like Affliction aren't a problem, but we all know the kind of shirts you mean anyway, so it's no problem.

If you search the forums for Affliction you'll find lots of threads asking about how to find similar blanks to them, how to design similar shirts to them, etc. etc.

Solmu thanks for your feedback. You seem to be an expert on this field so I will post additional questions and again thank you for the answers. My expertise in is Graphic Design but I haven't delt with t-shirts. Anythig else Graphics related I can lend some of my experience. Here are my questions

1.) Now that I know I can turn in a high-rez raster file (300 dpi) than do printers charge me per color of am I charged just one rate since its a raster image? I thnk vector is charged by the colors correct, and does this still apply to raster files?

2.) If I'm wanting to buy blank t-shirts (hanes for example) am I allowed to rip the tags off and sew my own tags?

3.) Is there a athlectic high quality blank t-shirt company qut there you recomend?

4.) I've noticed that there seem to be 2 types of inks on shirts. One seem raised and you can feel the print area raised to the touch on the shirts and other prints seem like they have actually seeped into the fabric (thus not feeling a raised surface on the shirt). Is this all in my mind or are there 2 different types of printing teachniques?

My questions can go on and on but don't want to scare anyone in here. Again if you have any questions about graphic arts I can help out. Thanks for your feedback.

Per colour. With screenprinting each colour plate needs to be printed separately, regardless of what kind of source file is used to make the screens.

300dpi is the standard recommended resolution, and a good one since it will allow you to also use the design for print, re-size it a little, etc. but lower will print fine (I've printed 200dpi for example, and you could likely go a little lower) if that ever becomes relevant.

Yes. There are, however, legal requirements regarding what appears on the tag - so you'll have to make sure your new label covers that.

Not my thing, but there are recommendations in the wholesale t-shirts section of the forum.

There are different types of screenprinting ink, the main two being plastisol and waterbased. Waterbased has a softer hand (feel on the fabric) than plastisol, though plastisol can also be modified to make it softer than it normally is. There's also discharge printing, which removes the dye from the shirt (and can then print pigment over the top). Discharge and waterbased printing will give you the softest results.
