Default screen printing output question

hello,

this is my first post in the design forum, and i'm not sure if i should be posting it here or in the screening forum, but its a software question so i figured i'd post here.

i've got a design i need to output that i'm having trouble with. you can see it in its final form attached. its a square, photorealistic image with a line of text under it and a logo next to it.

my client supplied a fairly low quality image to output, so i had to trace the text and the logo, but the design will be outputted from the original file.

so right now, i have a grayscale bitmap and a bunch of curves i need to output to my RIP which will apply a halftone pattern to the photographic part of the image.

if i send the image straight to the RIP with out going to "print separations," the halftone specifics (lpi, shape, angle) are not appropriate for how we want to print it.

so my problem is, using the "print separations" dialog, i cannot get the bitmap and the curves drawn in corelDRAW to output on the same separation as they are going to be printed all in the same colour on the same screen.

any simple solutions i'm missing?

thanks a lot,

paul

Paul,
You need to select the bitmap and change it to a gray scale bitmap. Then you need to make sure you are using cmyk black for your fil and outline color. Do not confuse cmyk black with pms process black. If you have done this correctly you should only see black as being the sep color when you select separations and use the "advanced" button to set your dot info.
If you get that ok I will tell you another way to do it in color!
Say you are going to print this gray scale picture with text with blue ink on a white shirt and the customer wants to see what it will look like.
First make sure your bitmap is in gray scale. Select Bitmaps/Mode/Duotone.
double click the color "Pantone Process Black" the PMS pallet will open and you can now change the black to any color you like. Select a pms color so you can match it with fills and outlines in your design. There are more options you can fool with but this should be enough to get you into trouble.

Relating to this, I imported a pdf into CorelDraw x3, I went to the bitmap, found the mode but all the options are grayed out. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks for all the help you have already given.

You will need to "convert to bitmap" first which is the first option under the bitmaps roll down. Make sure you have un grouped everything first if you can.
